Le beau temple rond fut improprement attribué à Vesta
en raison de sa forme circulaire et, sans doute par suite de l'analogie
avec le Temple de Vesta du Forum Romain.
Le temple date du 2° siècle av. J.C., probablement dédié
à Hercules vainqueur, et c'est le temple romain en marbre
le plus ancien qui se soit conservé jusque aujourd'hui.
